Vartavar: Water Games and Picnic in Ealing Park

Young Professionals London group organized and hosted a Vartavar outdoor event. The event was aimed to celebrate the ancient Armenian festive tradition of “Vartavar” that is associated with water games and outdoor activities.

The event was hosted at Ealing Common Park, London on the 5th July 2009. The exceptional sunny weather allowed the participants to play water games and having a picnic in the park.

This outdoor event attracted about 45 participants. The participants were divided into two teams and then played different games that involved sprinkling water and defending a team flag. They have also played ball games e.g dodgeball, football and flied kites.

 AGBU London supported the event providing the participants with water guns, food and of course water. The participants, however, brought there own games and water guns and were ready for the great event.

The event was very successful and the feedback received from the participants very positive. YP London hopes to organize more events like this that aimed to share the Armenian traditional activities with the local community.
