Grants & Loans
AGBU London has for many years provided grants and loans to university students of Armenian descent studying at accredited UK universities. The following is the AGBU London Trust policy on student loans and grants:
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POLICY IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
-
Financial assistance is available to full time undergraduate students of Armenian descent enrolled at UK universities who are UK citizens or are permanently resident in the UK under the UK immigration laws. Applications for postgraduate studies are also considered on a case by case basis depending on the proposed field of study.
-
Awards are in the form of grants or interest free loans. Outright grants are made to successful students who study Armenian language, literature, history and arts. Interest free loans are available to successful students of all other subjects.
-
Students must start repayment of their loans one year after graduating or receiving their postgraduate certificates unless there are extenuating circumstances in which case they should write to AGBU London and explain their situation.
-
All applications new or renewals must be received strictly by May 30 for the Academic year starting September of that year. Applications received after 30 May will not be considered.
-
All sections of the application forms MUST be completed. Applications that leave blanks for requested information will be rejected automatically without informing the applicant.
-
All applications are assessed on academic merit and financial need. All candidates will be informed if they have been shortlisted for an interview by 30 June.
-
Shortlisted candidates are expected to attend a personal interview in London in early September following which the students are advised of the outcome of their application. Applicants must make sure they are able to attend the interview on the allocated date and time. If missed, interviews cannot be rescheduled.
-
The maximum amount awarded currently is £3,000. Therefore, applicants should seek other sources of income and be able to demonstrate that the minimum necessary funds are available to successfully complete the intended course of study.
