SYNOPSIS:

On May 9 AGBU Young Professionals is hosting the 2-nd UK Pan-Armenian Youth Conference. This event will take place in the London Metropolitan University.

The purpose of the conference is to provide UK Armenian youth organisations and active community members the opportunity to establish a framework, which will make it easier for Armenian groups and individuals to work together, share information and collaborate on projects in the future. The conference aims to achieve specific goals that will facilitate that.

Armenian Youth groups from across the UK will be represented and lead the discussions of this theme. Individual participants will have equally opportunity to contribute to the discussions. Everyone is encouraged, prior to the conference to give their input as to what for they think the discussions should take. Alternatively you can simply register (by April 27 2009) and attend. Since complimentary lunch and refreshments is being provided please RSVP.

IMPORTANT GOALS:

The aim of this conference is to provide a platform for UK Armenian youth groups and individuals to work together on Armenian related projects.

Expected outcomes are:

·         A joint pledge by all participating UK Armenian youth groups on working together by agreeing on core values and principles

·         Agreement to set up an independent Pan UK Armenian youth database that can be used by all groups and organisations to promote Armenian events in the UK.

NON-EXCLUSIVE TOPICS

The focus of the 2-nd UK Pan Armenian Youth Conference (UKPAYC) is “Working Together”. This can cover a variety of topics concerning the cooperation of Armenian groups and organisations, primarily youth organisations, in the UK and worldwide. The aim is to concentrate on two or three specific topics.

Please help us focus the discussions by selecting two from the following topics. If you feel that your interests have not been addressed please feel free to suggest a topic within the theme of “working together”.

·         Setup and maintain an independently managed UK wide database for Armenian youth emails or other contact details compliant with UK data protection regulations.

·         Encourage youth Armenian Organisations in the UK and worldwide to work together on longer term programmes that address UK Armenian needs.

·         Discuss how to involve youth not currently taking part in the Armenian community and make it easy for them to contribute. (How to ensure continuity of successful programs started by one Armenian group?)discuss at event only

·         Is the Armenian language dying in the Diaspora? Debate what can give you, as a young Armenian, an incentive to learn the Armenian language, history and culture. How do you see your children learning this?

·         Discuss the idea of organising educational games and challenges with the purpose of encouraging young Armenians in the UK to learn facts about Armenian language and culture.

·         How can we build bridges between Armenian organisations. Do we need a mediation process to prevent personal conflicts within the youth community having a negative impact.
